Post Hurricane Irma Update:
Signs are posted at each trail head noting that the South Florida Water Management District is working to clear trails and that some areas may take several months to return to their pre-storm status.
Update as of 12/22/2017:
CREW Marsh Trails: All of the trails are cleared of large debris. Some areas are wet and muddy which is normal this time of year.
Cypress Dome Trails: Most of the trails are cleared of large debris. Somea reas are wet and muddy with areas of standing water near the smaller marshes. The Wild Coffee Trail remains closed at this time due to extensive damage and high water.
Please note: Due to damage from Hurricane Irma, Bird Rookery Swamp trail remains closed at the end of the boardwalk. The South Florida Water Management District is working to repair the trail. Please do not attempt to climb the barrier at the end of the boardwalk and access the trail. Conditions are hazardous with washouts, deep water crossings and deep ruts. Contractors are working on the trail with heavy machinery and will not be able to see or hear hikers. Please read all signs provided by the SFWMD and follow their directions.
As of 12/22/2017 we do not have an anticipated opening date for Bird Rookery Swamp. All work and all decisions made regarding the opening of the trail is at the discretion of the South Florida Water Management District as they are the landowners. The CREW Trust provides environmental education on the trails and does not manage the trails nor own the trails.
We appreciate your patience. Please check here for updates or follow CREW Land & Water Trust on Facebook.
