Les Stroud aka Survivorman to Rock Out at BB Mann in Ft Myers

Press release from Michelle Kenyon- Headspace Promotions, LLC

Sept. 15, 2016 Ft. Myers, FL – Les Stroud is a man of many talents, a Renaissance man of sorts. Fans of his wildly popular reality TV series “Survivorman” on the Discovery Channel know him not only for his un-surmountable survival skills and camerawork, but also for his killer harmonica riffs showcased in several episodes of the show. Les is a genuine musician and he is about to start the quintessential adventure of his life. les

From the time he was a teenager, Les has been writing, singing and performing professionally. He has released several independent records and has the chops to back up his musical endeavors as evidenced on his forthcoming project, Survivorman; Mother Earth, featuring the first single and music video “Arctic Mistress”.

Through his travels as Survivorman, Les has been immersed in nature, experiencing first-hand the beauty and perils of Mother Earth. The songs he’s written are testimonies to these personal adventures and now he wants to spread his message of love for the Earth and preserve her greatness for generations to come.

Come hear Les Stroud live with his 5-piece band at Barbara B Mann Performing Arts Hall on November 4th at 8pm. His show will entertain the audience with music, storytelling, and scenes from his travels. Tickets are available at www.bbmannpah.com or at the box office 239.481.4849.

A portion of the shows’ proceeds benefit CREW Land & Water Trust and the Boy Scouts of America. CREW’s mission is to protect the watershed, preserve panther and bear habitats, be a steward of clean water, and provide environmental education to the public. They have protected over 60,000 acres of land spanning Lee and Collier Counties since 1989 that include guided nature-walks, hiking, biking, birding, geocaching, and more.

You won’t believe what the CREW Trust did this year?

The CREW Land and Water Trust has had a spectacular year. More people visited our trails than ever before. Our educational programs were more numerous and reached more people. Additional land was put into preservation. The Southern Critical CREW project was launched. Fundraising was very successful. And, we owe it all to our CREW Trust members and volunteers.IMG_6542

Education is a major part of preserving and protecting the Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed. This past season, 45,118 visited CREW trails or participated in school field trips, guided walks or seminars. All of these activities are made possible by generous contributions, memberships dues, and fundraising such as the CREW Stanley Hole Golf Tournament  and the Annual CREW Concert and Silent Eco-Auction.wide shot 2016 concert by dick (2)

We couldn’t carry out our mission without our largest fundraiser, the CREW Concert & Silent Eco-Auction. Over 400 people attended to help us raise over $29,000 for our on-going environmental education programs. This event would not be possible if it wasn’t for our amazing generous sponsors. If you would like to join in on the fun this upcoming year then save the date- February 18, 2017 for the CREW Concert & Silent Eco-Auction. Help us by becoming a sponsor or donating a unique eco-auction item.

The CREW Trust Land Acquisition committegargulioe along with Florida Forever assisted the South Florida Water Management District in the purchase of  619.93 acres of land adjacent to Bird Rookery swamp along Immokalee Road in Naples. In addition, the Southern Critical CREW project at Flint Pen Strand began the long process of restoring 4150 acres near the end of Bonita Beach Road (see picture below) . In less than two years, this water restoration project will yield many miles of additional trails and recreational opportunities.flint pen

We wouldn’t be able to do all this fantastic work without the help of our CREW Trust volunteers. Our volunteers donated over 3,427 hours of their time this past season. Our volunteers help lead hikes, develop programs, create marketing materials, help remove exotic invasive plants, rebuild boardwalks, and much more. Our members and volunteers make all of these accomplishments possible. The members provide sustainable financial support and our volunteers provide the horsepower to get the job done. Together, our members, volunteers, staff and Trustees are the beating heart  of the CREW Trust.

#GivingTuesday: Why I Give to CREW

Deb 125x160Guest post by Deb Hanson

The CREW Land & Water Trust is launching its annual end-of-year giving campaign on #GivingTuesday, December 1st, 2015 – an international day of giving that harnesses the positive power of social media, and energizes people to give their money, time and talent to causes they care about.

This is a chance to give back to CREW and do good for all of southwest Florida, and I will be one of the first to donate – even though I don’t live in Florida anymore.

Here’s why I will give to CREW…

CREW Connects people to nature: When I give my hard-earned dollars to the CREW Trust, I know it will make a big impact. As a small nonprofit, the CREW Land and Water Trust depends on donor dollars to fund not only land acquisition, but its well-respected and highly successful environmental education programs. CREW’s high quality environmental education programs help people to connect to the land and water, to fall in love with this special place, and to build understanding about how the watershed supports us and how we impact those resources. The CREW Education Fund helps pay for interns, field trips for school kids, and scholarships for future environmental resource professionals.

CREW is a leader in protecting water resources of Southwest Florida: During the past 25 years, the CREW Trust has helped acquire over 28,000 acres of the Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed. While land acquisition has slowed in recent years, the CREW Trust continues to look for opportunities to buy land both within the project boundaries and around its immediate boundaries. CREW contributes matching funds which help pave the way for larger purchases like the Caracara Prairie Preserve. Protecting the watershed improves water access and quality throughout southwest Florida.

CREW manages its donations carefully: Brenda Brooks is a detail person. I know because I worked for her for four years! As CREW’s Executive Director, she knows how important it is to spend donations wisely on programs that further the CREW mission. Under her watch 87% of all income is spent on programs. Every penny is accounted for and every dollar is leveraged into higher yields through frugal spending, wise investments and in-kind services. When you donate to CREW, you can be assured your money is managed well and used to do good things.

CREW saved my life: I’ve been walking on CREW lands since 1992, even before trails and signs and environmental education programs. It is the place that I go to for peace, solace, restoration and inspiration. Once, when life got to be too much, I turned to CREW and was lucky enough to find work there. Taking that job saved my life. It restored my soul and gave me purpose. It gave me days in the woods and waters learning the rhythms of the seasons, and sharing with wonderful people all the joy and beauty of CREW. I’ve seen CREW do the same for so many other people. It’s where people go to run, to meditate, to watch wildlife, to walk hand-in-hand with a loved one, to get engaged, to announce a pregnancy, to get married.

CREW is special. The CREW Trust is its guardian. Let’s help keep it that way. Give to CREW today. Give generously.
