This is the 2nd annual CREW 10K Trail Run organized by CREW runner and volunteer, Phil Nissen. Phil is known by many across southwest Florida as the founder of the “Caloosa Trailheads“, an informal group of trail runners. The run takes place at the CREW Cypress Dome Trails and Caracara Prairie Preserve Trails – through marsh and mud, ditches and sloughs, along cattle paths and beautiful back country where bears and deer reside.

Come on out for a fun day with other runners who enjoy the outdoors and excitement of off-road running. There will be a 1-mile fun run as well for families with smaller children. Snacks and water will be provided.

For more info or to register, click here. It’s free, but donations to the CREW Trust are greatly appreciated.

10K Trail Run – October 26, 2013

Runners & Walkers: Join us for this 2nd annual no frills, back to nature, trail run at the CREW Cypress Dome Trail and Caracara Prairie Preserve.

No shirt, no fee (that means it’s FREE!), no whining, BUT lots of great CREW trails and fun.

8:00 start for 10K
8:10 start for 1-Mile Fun Run

This is a “cupless” run, but there will be one water refill station. Refreshments afterwards will accompany the tales of the trail.

Register here http://crew10k2013.eventbrite.com/ (Donations to the CREW Trust are greatly appreciated – online or on race day)

The CREW Cypress Dome and Caracara Prairie Preserve trails are primitive, rugged trails through pine flatwoods, popash slough, along marsh edges, in cattle pasture, and through oak hammocks. They vary from relatively flat grassy trails to narrow, root-filled curvy trails, to seasonally wet and muddy trails. This race goes across a drainage ditch as well. It’s adventure all the way!

Be sure to thank the good folks over at Run Florida on McGregor for being our official sponsor of this run.

Twilight Hike & Campfire Stories with Judge Hugh Starnes

Judge Hugh Starnes

February 22, 2013

Take a short hike at the new Caracara Prairie Preserve and then sit around the campfire with Judge Hugh Starnes and hear stories about the old days and history of the Corkscrew  community. Judge Starnes is the former owner of Caracara Prairie Preserve and still holds an active cattle lease on the property. His family has lived and worked this land for many generations. He’ll spin a yarn or two about homesteading, cattle ranching, and changes to the landscape over the years.

CREW Concert 2012 – A Look Back

On Saturday, March 24th, 2012 about 400 people gathered on the lawn of Riverside Park in Olde Bonita Springs to support the CREW Land & Water Trust at our 5th annual benefit concert. The music line-up “was the best one yet” – with Wendy Webb‘s smooth vocals, The Wholetones funky upbeat folkcore fusion, and the grand finale with Kat Epple and the Katalyst Project. A classy touch was the dancing of Christar Damiano.

Between sets CREW Chairman of the Board, Bill Hammond, and CREW Executive Director, Brenda Brooks, shared a few stories about CREW and thanked all the concert sponsors, Trustees, volunteers, and those who attended. We also shared three short videos about CREW that were produced as part of our documentary package by WGCU-Public Media last year.

The silent auction was fabulous and Rotary of Bonita Springs provided drinks while CREW Trustes provided food for concert-goers. The people who attended were generous bidders at our silent auction as well as generous donors to our food/drink donation jug. Thank you to all who made this night so special.

Come Bid on These Cool Silent Auction Items!

This coming Saturday, March 24, 2012, the CREW Trust will hold its annual benefit concert – A Musical Night with Nature at the beautiful Riverside Park in Olde Bonita Springs. As part of our concert festivities we also hold a silent auction.

We’ve got great experiences as well as some pretty cool items up for auction this year. From canopy tree climbs to fossil expeditions, airplane rides over CREW to swamp buggy tours at Corkscrew Sanctuary – there’s something for every adventurer.

Plus, you can bid on original art, music, and crafts – a family portrait sitting with world-renown portraitist Bradford, photographs, art prints, walking sticks, scarves, and music -including a 3-hour personal Classic Rock concert by the band, The Mighty Quint.

We thank all our silent auction donors for their generous donations to help raise money for our environmental education programs at CREW. Educating kids and adults about the wonders of the watershed and the importance f protecting places like CREW is a critical component of our work.

So, come on out to the concert (tickets are available at the event!) and stroll through our auction to bid on these great items and fantastic experiences!

See you there!
